A Private Sector
Organization Sharing Information and Intelligence and Integrating
Assets with Local, State and Federal Resources for the Protection of
Our Nations Critical
Infrastructures
InfraGard is a
national education and information sharing program created by and
between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the
private/public sector. There are InfraGard groups in cities around
the country. Their individual and combined objectives include the
mitigating of local, state and national vulnerabilities which
terrorists might attempt to exploit. By their implementation,
these objectives also provide increased protection against criminal
activities found in our cities and towns as well as in our corporate
environments and in our personal lives.
Los
Angeles is one of the largest InfraGard
Alliance regions in the country as it represents the same seven
counties as the Los Angeles FBI office out of which it operates. All
prospective members must complete an application form and each are
then put through an appropriate level background
check.
Individual members
and Member Organizations come from all types of private/public
organizations, law enforcement and federal agencies. Each shares a
common thread in that each is associated with, or is charged with
protecting, one or more of our critical infrastructures. As defined
by the President of the United States in 1998; “Critical infrastructures are
those physical and cyber-based systems essential to the minimum
operations of the economy and government. These systems are so
vital, that their incapacity or destruction would have a
debilitating impact on the defense or economic security of the
United
States”.
